It all began in 1981 with the idea of finding a site in Sarasota for a personal endeavor. It turned out to be a career and a life changing choice

The hotel has always been known as the “Captiva,” which means “Land” in Latin. Here we believe it is the land of the setting sun.

Originally built in 1954, the inn was managed by three other entrepreneurs prior to the Ispaso acquisition. In the 60’s and 70’s, Sarasota was a sleepy little town. However, as the enchantment of Siesta Key, Lido Key, and Longboat Key became known nationally and internationally, Sarasota came in full swing as a spectacular vacation spot. Guests now return each year for more.

Today after careful restoration, the Captiva Beach Resort is operated as a full service inn, offering 20 rooms and suites with private baths, fully equipped kitchens, and seating areas. Surrounded by a tropical oasis of lush foliage and exotic wildlife, the resort is a natural retreat for outdoor and beach enthusiasts alike. Outside lounging and seating areas are nestled below palms and situated for privacy. Crescent Beach, which has been listed as one with the whitest sand nationally, is 400 feet from the front door. The Captiva has been a member of the Siesta Key Chamber of Commerce since 1981 and a member of Superior Small Lodging Association since 1997. In June 2004, the Superior Small Lodging Association awarded the Captiva Beach Resort a 100% for cleanliness and 99.7% for overall appearance, the highest rating in all of Sarasota County. This family owned inn is ideally situated in a quaint setting reflecting the history and ambiance of tropical Florida.
